Of Female and Age(ing?)

I turned 31 last December n will turn 32 end of this yr. I'm already grudging about being so old and missing my youth. It's the nature of being a woman.We are allowed to feel so. Unlike men who think life starts at 40 (even for some is 50) we women foresee life as dull and mean after 35 or max 40. You can google n read all about it..yada..yadaaa

But i'm not writing about women problems towards ageing. My girl, Sofea who turned 6 last Thursday, insisted that she is still 5 years old n refused to be a 6 year-old. I asked her why and her answer was quite funny. She said that her friend from her ballet class, Don who is taller than her is 5 years old and therefore she can't be 6. She wants to stay 5. Hahaha...

You see...even a kindergarden female is spooked when age is concerned ;)

Happy Birthday Sofea

My beautiful and adorable princess, Khairyn Iryna Sofea turns 6 today. She has grown up so fast, physically and spiritually. She no more watches Playhouse Disney channels. Instead, she now watches Hanna Montanna, Power Puff Z and other more mature programmes for kids on Disney channels. She also choses High School Musical stationery stuffs instead of Barbie n Disney Princesses. She adores ballet n love going to her ballet lessons and her ability to play piano has improved as well. My little girl is becoming a lovely young lady.

Sofea darling, Mommy, Daddy, Abang & Adik love u soOoo much!!!

English for Science & Maths

This issue has revisited us again. Malaysian authorities have voiced out their fear that majority of our students can't cope with learning Science & Maths in English. Students have been failing in these subjects due to the fact that they have not mastered the English Language itself. While i totally agree that the main problem here are the fact that our schools are lacking of sufficient teachers who r proficient in English and that students cant cope with the teaching of Science & Maths in English until they have considerable mastery of the language; i am appalled with their stand that " the teaching of Maths&Science in English was an insult to the national language and its ability to be an effective medium of instruction."

OK. 1st of all, our national language will not at all be affected or in anyway becoming inferior if we learn these 2 subjects in English. BM will still be our national n official language, a compulsory language for all schools in Msia. I am sure many would share my opinion on this.

On the other hand, I strongly believe that students will gain tonnes of benefits if the medium of instruction of these subjects remained in English. In fact, being proficient in English opens the door to a lot more golden opportunities nowadays.

Teaching Maths and Science is not really about improving English proficiency. It is because English is the lingua franca for science and maths. Most references and citations are in english. Moreover, if BM is used as the medium of instruction especially at tertiary level, we will lose competitive edge as a science book or reference will take a few years to be completely translated. By that time a lot of updates will be in place.

Love

My colleague who sits next to me has this yellow pen holder that bears this quote;

" The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother"

I couldn't agree more to that;

On a small note, i wanna add, " The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother and to support her with respect and admiration and to spoilt her with handbags and $$$" ;D

Mind Over Matter

After work yesterday, i was shivering. Not..it's never that cold in KL. It was caused by my hungriness. Gosh...it seems that that oily fried kueh teow i had at lunch failed to make my tummy well-fed. I went to O.U with hubby, with only one thing in mind...food. While i was still deciding wat to have to fill my tummy, hubby went to get his stationery supplies. I couldn't help but to join him too but later, deviated. I started looking for Sofea's swimming suit then to the ladies department. I managed to find few decent-looking shirts n blouses for work, though couldn't find the suitable matching pants for them. Sighhh..

After almost an hour, i realized that i hv forgotten about my longing for food. It was still there, i was still very much ravenous but it was not that appealing anymore. My hunger for shopping n specifically clothes had replaced my hunger for food. It was mind over the matter. Or was it just an adrenaline rush? LOL

We left O.U without me getting anything for my tummy. We went to Ikea next. There, i finally managed to grab some curry puffs b4 we continued what i do best.. shopping!....;)

Annoyed

I'm currently annoyed with my hopeless attempts in changing my blog skin...arrrghhhh...there r tonnes of templates available but very few made it to my list..n still being literally retarded in this html stuffs...its still a long way to go b4 i'll finally get to my desired blog skin that will satisfy me..And another thing that hv been bothering me is that i still cant open my iTunes...wat the heck actually happen in there??? help...

Movies Snippet

Bought some dvd last week n watched the following movies. Here's my very brief reviews..;)

1) Slumdog Millionaire
- two thumbs up...extraordinare n brilliant performance by the geek-looking Dev Patel. the movie is so sad n my heart melted all the way till the end. i adored Anil Kapoor when he was younger of course, his appearance as the show host was remarkably good.

2) Revolutionary Road
- very artistic settings..n very slow pace...tragic ending
- the characters were strongly built by the excellent work by Leo n Kate Winslet..

3) The Women
- the whole story fits the title as there was no single man in this movie. Meg Ryan was adorable as ever, as Eva Mendez was a top-notch bitch of all time! Love it!

more movie to watch this week:

Changeling, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Australia (ha-ha super outdated), and another 2 titles i've forgotten.

Me & My Offspring

These pix were captured while we were enjoying our fav j.co donuts on my bday last december.

Malay Men

I had dinner with my hubby last weekend at uptown pj. While waiting for a parking space in front of us, the driver of the car that we were waiting to vacate the space went to his passenger side to open the door for his spouse/girlfriend. It was quite an unusual scenario here in Malaysia. My hubby commented sarcastically on how 'romantic' n 'gentleman' that man was (who was a Malay guy btw).
Later, as we watched the couple in front of us, we realized that the man was actually adjusting the passenger door as it can't be open from the inside, therefore he had to help her open the door from the outside. Hah!! i tot so! Sorry guys...but its just that it's almost impossible to find that kind of gentleman nowadays.. this species of men (malay in particular) are in the brink of near extinction...sadly though ;)
